  The American Solar Challenge logos. The race takes place every two years. In 2001 it followed the famous Route 66 from Chicago to Los Angeles.
     
                                                

prove TEAM
  Qualification is earned after passing technical controlls. Qualification means keeping an average of 40km/hr for 8.5 hours. All teams that pass preliminary trials are admitted to the race. The Futura Team and their keepsake photo.
     
                                                

ALL TEAMS START
  Before leaving the square of the Museum of Technical Science in Chicago, all teams pose for a photo. Futura 2 is readin for the start. Via is given to teams with a 1 minute interval.
     
                                                

RACE SOSTA
  A typical central American landscape with Futura 2 followed by a support vehicle at a 10 meter distance. At every intermediate tap there is a 30 minute rest stop. Batteries are recharged using the sun and the teams take advantage of the time to rest.
     
                                                

RACE country
  The landscape that accompanies the endless American roada is facsinating. It is easy to run into almost abbandond mid-west towns wher once Route 66 was very busy.
     
                                                

LESLIE START BARSTOW
After a day of racing, Futura 2 is positioned under the sun. The Observer constantly controlls the vehicle and the batteries. All the solar vehicles are ready to start. The last tap is short to alow all the vehicles to arrive together.
                                                

CHESS MICHIGAN
Futura 2 Finishes its race after covering 3000km. 17th position isn't the best but the team is happy after exhausting route. The University of Michigan's car places first. It encompasses the best technological solutions.
                                                

ROLLA WATERLOO
The University of Missouri earns a second place with a time lapse of 1 hour and 20 minutes. The University od Waterloo (Canada) is third with a time lapse of 4 hours and 50 minutes.
                                                

TARGA VIA RODEO
Futura Team earns a plaque for best group work during the race. Before the deparure the foto in Rodeo Drive.
